Increasing the use of sustainable wood products in construction and in The Renovation Wave are the priorities with their contribution to helping tackle climate change being central.

Paul is a former UK Member of the European Parliament who in the last parliament served on both the Environment Committee and the Agriculture Committee. He led for the Socialists & Democrats political grouping on forestry and timber issues and was a rapporteur on the previous EU forest strategy and on the Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry legislation where he was instrumental in achieving the inclusion of the promotion of long-life harvested wood products, particularly engineered timbers, for use in the construction industry. Paul was also vice chair of the Club du Bois.

Before becoming an MEP Paul worked for the development charity Christian Aid as head of advocacy working primarily on climate change. Earlier roles were with the Anti-Apartheid Movement, the Labour Party and HSBC. He holds an MBA for Durham University and a degree in theology and religious studies from Leeds University.

Paul was the 2022/3 David Goldman Visiting Professor of Innovation and Enterprise at Newcastle University Business School.

President and CEO

Dr. Kingsley is a well-known authority on innovative timber structures, with a special interest in tall mass timber construction. He is the President and CEO of KL&A, Engineers and Builders, a firm 115 with capabilities in vertically integrated work. He is well known for working creatively with architects to achieve novel and successful solutions to structural challenges. He is also an authority on the structural behavior of masonry buildings, with a special emphasis on seismic design.

His current passion is for innovative wood structures, and in the rapidly growing field of mass timber construction, which he considers our best hope for marrying carbon sequestration with environmental responsibility. In 2019, Greg lead the way making Denver the third jurisdiction in the U.S. to adopt the Tall Wood Provisions of the 2021 IBC early.

Patrick leads the Small Existing and New Developments Team at the City of Vancouver, where he works to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience in new construction and small existing buildings. His work supports the Climate Emergency Action Plan goals of reducing building emissions and embodied carbon by 50% and 40%, respectively, by 2030, and the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. Current priorities include increasing low carbon retrofits for detached homes, zero carbon and resilient new buildings, reducing embodied emissions from construction, and making it easier to build with mass timber.

Patrick is a professional engineer with over a decade of experience in the Vancouver building industry, including a number of years in mechanical design and energy modeling. Before moving to Vancouver, he worked in the national project management office of Defence Construction Canada, and holds a Bachelor’s of Aerospace Engineering from Carleton University.
